Our newsletters for small animal owners (Pet Talk) and also for horsy people (Horse’s Mouth), put out sporadically over the last 18 months, have proved extremely popular with both outlets and clients.

Last winter a dairy newsletter was made available at the Fieldays.

This newsletter, Cattle Tattle has now been reformatted for 2007 and is widely available to farmers via both veterinary outlets and the rural press.

Knowing that all EA products are only available to farmers via veterinary practices the newsletter is designed to make it easier for clinic staff to overcome false negatives to highly effective

products such as Calol, which has stood the test of time as the most effective oral milk fever treatment despite a rash of ‘Johnny come latelys’ that most farmers are now realising do not have the same effect.

One of the articles, albeit with a little less ‘farmer talk’ has been reproduced in this newsletter attempting to show why there is no ‘magic bullet’ that can be a panacea for all metabolic diseases at the same time.

Special points of interest

Strengths and Weaknesses

Some cases for ‘The Mythbusters’

- energy levels in scour remedies

- oily suspensions.

Shotgun therapy pitfalls

Pain relief in acute situations, long term drugs not indicated.

Taking opportunity from threats - how to benefit from SWOT

Attacking on strengths, as emphasised by Bush attacking Kerry’s war record in the US election is a common tactic.

Not so common is attacking perceived weaknesses that are actually strengths.

The fact that Calol is thick and sticks to the bottle is actually a strength, as that is why it is so effective.

In the same vein energy levels in calf remedies are being widely talked about.

High substrate and hypertonic remedies are fine for E. coli scours but not Rotavirus or Cryptosporidia.

Both issues can be classified as ‘disinformation’ and both are addressed inside this newsletter.
