IIt is February already; as usual January is the fastest month of the year. This may be because most are on holiday for part of January, or an overhang from Christmas so the month always seems to fly.
One downside of this is that many farmers get caught out if spore counts rise before they have zinc administration methods in place.
The extremely hot humid conditions in the north at the end of January, were ideal for a sudden outbreak.
Counts round the region are not at danger levels as this
was being written but, unsurprisingly, were rising sharply.
There is always the odd cow that develops clinical signs before many farmers are aware; these are often then stimulus to act!
Treating these cases is always a problem, particularly trying to base any supportive therapy on good science.
