Calsafe and Calol Work Together

The best metabolic disease prevention is good nutrition and targeting milk fever prone animals with Calol, which is far more economical than whole herd starter drenching.

For milk fever treatment use Calol as long as the cow has a swallow reflex. If the cow cannot swallow then intravenous calcium is indicated followed by Calol, once she can swallow, for relapse prevention.

Now available, without consultation, from your vet is the safe but powerful calcium injection Calsafe, in compact 100 ml vials.

Calsafe is a solution containing, in each 100mL, 4.6g calcium and 0.8g magnesium (in the form of a complex of gluconic and boric acid), and 0.6g phosphorylethanolamine.

Thus it is a calcium magnesium complex using citric acid, gluconic acid and boric acid. The low boric acid concentration and release of calcium and magnesium in a constant proportion ensure excellent compatibility.

The absence of free boric acid means that the potential adverse effects on the cardiovascular system are minimised.

In a healthy cow the ratio of calcium to magnesium is 5.6:1, while in milk fever it is 2:1. The coma symptoms of milk fever are due to the relatively high magnesium level.

The low serum phosphorus levels seen in cows with milk fever may also influence the symptoms. The quantities per dose of calcium magnesium and phosphorus are sufficient for every type and severity of milk fever.
