Endotracheal Tube

Description:

Tracheal intubation is simple in most domestic species of animal, so an endotracheal tube is almost invariably used in preference to a mask for connection of the breathing circuit to the patient’s airway.

Actions: 

• Assists in maintaining a patent airway. 
• Prevents aspiration of saliva or regurgitated gastric contents. 
• Seals the respiratory system and breathing circuit. 

Directions for Use: 

• Test the cuff by inflating and deflating with a syringe prior to use. 
• Deflate the cuff completely prior to intubation. 
• Intubate the animal. 
• After intubation, inflate the cuff using the minimum volume of air required to provide an effective seal. 
• Attach the endotracheal tube to an anaesthetic machine and start an oxygen flow to slowly inflate the lungs (do not over expand the lungs) to test the cuff seal and the position of the tube. Adjust the tube as required. 
• Always deflate cuff prior to adjustment or removal 
• The endotracheal tube can be cut to length to minimise dead space

The Endotracheal Tube is presented in a single, sealed and sterile packet, and is available in the following sizes: 4mm, 4.5mm, 5mm, 5.5mm 6mm, 6.5mm, 7mm, 7.5mm 8mm, 8.5mm, 9mm, 9.5mm 10mm, 10.5, 11mm, 12mm, 13mm

Storage:

Do not expose to temperatures above 40oC or 100oF.

Caution: 

Check the tube is the correct size for the intended patient before opening. Using an incorrect tube size may cause the animal to experience greater resistance when breathing. 

Single use only. Must not be re-used. 

Do not use if package is opened or damaged.
